8 May 2009 OMOOBA YEMISI ADEDOYIN SHYLLON ART FOUNDATION (OYASAF) INAUGURATES FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM WITH AWARDS TO EUROPEAN AND US RESEARCHERS OYASAF recently awarded Research Fellowships to William Ian Bourland, of the University of Chicago, Janine Sytsma, of the University of Wisconsin and Carmen De Michele of Ludwigs-Maximilians University of Munich.
The three doctoral candidates in art history are expected to be in Nigeria during different periods of the year pursuing their studies in contemporary Nigerian art. “Until twenty years ago, the study of Nigeria's art and cultural history was greatly enriched by the extraordinary partnerships between Nigerian and foreign scholars. The OYASAF Fellowship Program is designed to give doctoral candidates from abroad the opportunity to refine their research and shape their thesis proposals, “ explained Oomoba Engr. Yemisi Adedoyin Shyllon, the Founder of OYASAF. OYASAF is the largest private collection of Nigerian traditional and contemporary art and Omooba (Engr) Yemisi Adedoyin Shyllon is a major creative force in the study, collection, preservation and exhibition of Nigerian art. The OYASAF Graduate Fellowship is awarded annually to applicants of non-Nigerian origin from the disciplines of art history and cultural anthropology.
